Wayne Dowdle

Wayne Chapman Dowdle "Together Again" Our Daddy went home to be with Mom on November 14, 2010. Our world is poorer with the loss of this kind, gentle man. He was born January 22, 1923 in Rigby, Idaho to Robert Hazen and Lydia Bell Chapman Dowdle. While serving in the US Navy during World War II he met and married Mildred Doris Gulledge in Daytona Beach, FL. They were later sealed to each other and their children in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mom and Dad were together for 50 years and raised five children: Billie Joyce (Allen) Turner, Robert Wayne (Kathie Peak), Ronald Keith (Gloria Dixon), Lydia Ellen Hart and Paul DuWayne (Jodie Griffith). When their kids were about raised they welcomed Mom's niece and nephews, Tracy, Robert and Reno Gulledge, into their home and cared for them as their own. Mom died in 1994 and Dad married Leda Young. They enjoyed 15 years together before Leda's death in August, 2010. Dad could fix about anything - and if it couldn't be fixed, he'd put it on a shelf or park it somewhere close by to use for parts. He was a machinist at Love Machine Company for over 30 years. When he wasn't working at the shop, he was working at home in the garage fixing cars for neighbors, family, friends and friends of friends. If things break down in heaven, help is on the way.

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous Priesthood and auxiliary capacities. He and Leda were service missionaries at LDS Business College and worked together in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Dad enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching, listening to the Tabernacle Choir and picking huckle-berries. He is survived by four of his children; daughter-in-law, Kathie; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grand-children; one great-great-grandson; older brother, Harold (Ruth); younger brother and best friend, Robert; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceded in death by son, Robert; grandson, Matthew Hart; parents; four sisters and their spouses; and a dear sister-in-law, JoAnn Dowdle.
