Walter L. Rafferty

Dear Mr Brockett,

I am writing this email to inform you that my Dad, Walter L. Rafferty, who served on the USS Cleveland during WWII passed away on July 15, 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 87. He was so very proud of having served on the USS Cleveland. He was buried at the Veteran's Cemetery, Jacksonville National Cemetary on July 19th.

Walter Lynn "Lucky" Rafferty, 87, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida. He moved to Jacksonville from Fort Lauderdale, Florida 17 years ago where he was the owner of Southern Screen, the oldest screen enclosure company in Broward County. Born on February 20, 1924 in DuBois, Pennsylvania, he graduated from St. Catherine's Catholic High School followed by service in the US Navy aboard the USS Cleveland during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose Marie, his High School Sweetheart. Also survived by his sister, Claire Seifker, sons Daniel Rafferty, Allen Rafferty (Kathy), daughter Kathy Kaufman (Barry), and his grandchildren Jessica and Daniel Kaufman. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 19th in St. Joseph's Historic Church, 4214 Loretto Rd., Jacksonville, with Fr. Daniel Cody as celebrant, followed by interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL.
