USS Cleveland CL-55 Reunion Association

Manila, Philippines 1945

"The Japanese did not give up Manila without a fight. It was street to street fighting. The city was badly damaged by bombing, strafing and ground artillery. Many parts of the city burned to the ground. Commander McCoy (at right), pictured with a Marine from our ship, took these photos while visiting Manila after the fighting had ended."
